The USA made clear before the Olympics that it wasn't a question of
whether their team of moneyed all-stars won, it was how. LeBron James became
the first American in Olympic history to achieve a triple double against
Australia (10 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds, in other words the perfect
all-round performance). They've never looked like losing, yet there has been
something mechanistic about the performances – a shortage of thrills, spills
and insouciant dribbles.
